Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is an anorexia nervosa self-evaluation test?
The Anorexia Nervosa Indicating Self-evaluation is an anorexia assessment that will make you aware of your anorexia levels and its severity. This self-evaluation will give you a better understanding of the symptoms of anorexia if you have any. It will also give you insights into any issues that you are facing at the moment and to seek help for them.
2. What are the advantages of this anorexia nervosa self-evaluation?
The biggest advantage of this self-evaluation is that it gives you an overview of mental well-being in general and whether you need to reach out to a mental health professional to seek help and guidance. Along with this, it will give you an insight into the physical as well as emotional signs and symptoms.
3. How can you scale anorexia nervosa by this evaluation test?
Once you have taken the evaluation and answered all the questions, you will be required to score yourself for each answer and get a total score as per the instructions given below the test. Your total score will determine the severity of anorexia that you may be facing. You can then proceed to book a session with Ananda if you feel so!
4. What qualifies as anorexia nervosa?
Anorexia is observed when there is a Restriction of calorie consumption leading to weight loss or a failure to gain weight resulting in a significantly low body weight based on that person’s age, sex, height and stage of growth. The person should also have an Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming “fat.” Along with this, the individual should have a distorted view of themselves and their condition.
5. What happens to your body when you have anorexia nervosa?
A person with anorexia can become severely malnourished and if that happens then, every organ in the body can be damaged, including the brain, heart and kidneys. This damage may not be fully reversible, even when the anorexia is under control.
6. What are the 2 main causes of anorexia?
The 2 main causes of anorexia are- Genetics and Poor Emotional wellbeing. People with first-degree relatives (siblings or parents) with an eating disorder are 10 times more likely to develop an eating disorder, which suggests a genetic link. Perfectionism, impulsive behavior and difficult relationships can all play a role in lowering a person’s self-esteem and perceived self-worth. This can make them vulnerable to developing anorexia.
7. What are two types of anorexia?
  1. Restricting type
People with this type of anorexia nervosa place severe restrictions on the quantity and type of food they consume. This could include counting calories, skipping meals, restricting certain foods (such as carbohydrates), and following obsessive rules, such as only eating foods of a certain colour.
  2. Binge eating/ Purging type
People with this type of anorexia also place severe restrictions on the food they eat. But this is accompanied by binge eating and then purging. When binge eating, someone eats a large amount of food and has feelings of being out of control. The person then ‘compensates’ for this eating by purging the food through vomiting or misusing laxatives, diuretics, or enemas.
8. Is anorexia mental or physical?
Like other eating disorders, anorexia is both a mental and a physical illness. It is a complex medical and psychiatric illness that can have serious health, personal and relational consequences.
