Postpartum Depression
The birth of a baby can trigger many powerful emotions, from extreme happiness to fear and anxiety. But it can also trigger something you might not expect – depression. Most new mothers experience “Postpartum Blues” which commonly includes mood swings, crying spells, anxiety and difficulty in sleeping.
The blues begin after delivery and can last up to two weeks. But some new mothers experience a more severe and long-lasting form of depression called postpartum depression.
This depression is neither a flaw nor a weakness, but it must be addressed when it occurs. With proper treatment and counselling you can manage the symptoms and help you bond with your child.
